News Now: Man United’s transfer target signs five-year deal following Newcastle United snub.

Former Newcastle United transfer target Nicolo Barella has signed a new five-year deal.
Nicolo Barella has signed a new five-year contract with Inter Milan, one year after being widely linked with a move to Newcastle United.
Newcastle contacted about the midfielder last summer, hoping to agree on a £50 million deal. Inter Milan refused to sell the player, thus Newcastle focused their attention on AC Milan and Sandro Tonali instead.

So far, the Tonali trade has been tough for Newcastle and the player, who was banned for the duration of the 2023-24 season for violating betting rules. Meanwhile, Barella played 37 games to help Inter win the Serie A championship.

The 27-year-old has been awarded a new long-term contract at the San Siro, which was formally revealed by the club on Tuesday evening.

A statement from the club read: “Internazionale Milano can confirm that Nicolò Barella has renewed his contract with the Club: The 27-year-old midfielder will remain a Nerazzurri player until 30 June 2029.” Barella was also watched by Manchester United last summer, but a new contract effectively eliminates the possibility of the player leaving Inter this summer.

Barella won Euro 2020 with Italy and is currently traveling with the national team to Germany for Euro 2024, where they hope to defend their championship.

Manchester City gave Bruno Guimaraes a boost after Julian Alvarez’s transfer plans were ‘outlined’.

Newcastle United are allegedly anxious that they may lose Bruno Guimaraes to Manchester City before the end of the month.

It is assumed that the Blues will search for a new midfielder this summer, with Kalvin Phillips set to go. Meanwhile, there are rumors that Matheus Nunes may be permitted to depart if the proper offer comes up only a year after he arrived.

Newcastle are facing Premier League spending restrictions this summer and may have to offload a number of players, maybe before June 30 – the conclusion of the current three-year financial cycle under Profit & Sustainability Rules. Guimaraes is expected to make a decision on his future by the end of June.

According to The Northern Echo, the Magpies are growing concerned that they may receive an attractive offer from Manchester City for Guimaraes and will be unable to stop him from departing if he submits a transfer request and the deal is adequately appraised.

The Brazilian, 26, is valued at more than £100 million, which Newcastle would be hard pressed to reject if such a figure were offered. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have both been connected with Guimaraes, but Newcastle believes Man City has the upper hand right now.

Guardiola, who was supposed to be looking for a player to complement and cover Rodri, raved about Guimaraes in March, saying, “He is a great holding midfielder.

“He is aggressive whether with or without the ball. He’s aggressive in set-pieces and a true holding midfielder.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that Julian Alvarez wants more playing time and is open to leaving this summer, but will not be moving to his preferred destination, Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and PSG have all expressed an interest in the striker, with all promising guaranteed game time.

Last season, the Argentine started 31 of his 36 Premier League games, while he only started two of Man City’s ten Champions League games and sat out three. His contract extends through 2028.
