News Now: Russell Wilson discusses his blossoming bond with ex-Bears quarterback ……..

This summer will be critical for former Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who will compete with Russell Wilson for a starting spot in Pittsburgh.
While competing, the fourth-year quarterback is learning from and getting to know the nine-time Pro Bowler and 2014 Super Bowl champion.
But Wilson has long admired Fields, even before they became teammates.

“I have always been a major Justin fan. “I’ve always enjoyed watching his games,” Wilson said to Aaron Becker. “We’ve known one other for a long time, actually. We were chatting to each other in the offseason before we got here and signed, and we were rooting for each other. I have a lot of respect for his skill and who he is as a player and teammate. It’s fantastic to be together. We’re just elevating and trying to improve every day.”

As a seasoned and accomplished veteran of the game, Wilson believes it is his responsibility to teach the game to the next generation of quarterbacks.

“I think there’s a great obligation in this game for me, personally, to continue to give as much knowledge as I know,” Wilson stated. “I’ve been lucky to be in the midst of many games, important moments, and other events. I adore this game. I believe that much is given, much is expected. You are continuously learning both individually and by teaching.”

Both are vying to play under center for the Steelers. However, offensive coordinator Aruthur Smith believes Wilson is now in the “pole position” to win the job outright. Pole position does not imply that Wilson has gotten the job. However, the long-time veteran has a significant advantage.

Smith, on the other hand, stated that it is enjoyable for him to design an offense with two new and distinct quarterbacks. He’d like that than a play-calling position with an established quarterback who came before him.

“It’s probably easier than if you get a job like this and there’s a guy that’s maybe been here 10 years,” Smith stated. “They may have a particular method they’ve done things. We are all new. And that’s been fun.”
