According to rumors, Newcastle United have made a move to sign Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.
Eddie Howe will face significant pressure to achieve next season after losing out on European status in 2023/24. The Magpies’ Champions League nights against Dortmund, AC Milan, and PSG will be remembered for a long time, but fans will refuse to accept them as a one-time occurrence.
However, given the Premier League’s tough rivalry, Newcastle will most certainly need to invest in crucial areas to stay competitive, especially given that they were eight points behind in the fight for the top four.
According to Spanish outlet Jijantes, Newcastle have made an offer of €15 million plus €5 million in add-ons for Torres, which is a significant drop from the reported £46.7 million Barcelona paid Man City for his services up front in 2021.
Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has shot down the rumour, writing on X that there is “no truth in the claims Newcastle have made a bid for Ferran Torres”.
Newcastle fans will be hoping Edwards is off the mark.
Torres scored a good 10 goals and three assists in 37 combined La Liga and Champions League appearances last season, although only starting 15 of those games.
The 24-year-old also has an impressive national team record, with 19 goals and four assists in 41 senior matches for Spain, including six goals in the World Cup, European Championships, and UEFA Nations League finals combined.
And don’t forget that Pep Guardiola once described this guy as ‘outstanding’ during their time at Manchester City.
