News Now: Cubs pitcher Jordan Wicks quits start versus Cardinals due to tightness in his oblique.

Chicago (AP) — Cubs pitcher Jordan Wicks left the game against the St. Louis Cardinals because to tightness in his right oblique.
Wicks left in the second inning on Friday afternoon. He walked off the field with a trainer after giving up a two-out single to Dylan Carlson. Kyle Hendricks pitched in and retired Brendan Donovan on a grounder to second.
Wicks allowed two hits and struck out two in his maiden start and second appearance since recovering from an injured left forearm. He was sidelined for six weeks.

Jordan Wicks, the Chicago Cubs’ left-hander, left Friday afternoon’s game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals after only 1 2/3 innings due to an oblique injury.
After striking out the first two batters in the second inning, Wicks allowed Dylan Carlson to single and appeared to be in pain before Brendan Donovan took the plate. Wicks appeared to grasp his lower back while conversing with Chicago manager Craig Counsell and a trainer.

Wicks tossed 28 pitches before his departure. He allowed only two hits and no walks.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks took over for Wicks.

Wicks, 24, was activated from the 15-day injured list last Friday after suffering a left forearm injury. He has a 1-2 record and a 4.18 ERA in seven appearances (six starts) this season.
