Everton in major Iliman Ndiaye transfer push, Marseille could now sell as price update emerges

According to L’Equipe, Everton’s pressure on Marseille in order to capture Iliman Ndiaye this summer has unsettled the club.

On June 21, the French newspaper stated on their website that the Toffees, who are attempting to sign the former Sheffield United forward for the third consecutive transfer window, are facing their best chance of success yet.

Ndiaye’s team is open to the notion because the Marseille hierarchy is searching for liquidity and so could sell, although after spending €20 million [£16.9 million] to sign him a year ago, they are believed to want to recoup their investment.

Everton also tried for the 24-year-old in January 2023, before Sean Dyche replaced Frank Lampard [L’Equipe], and they may now finally get their man.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin linked to Everton exit.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding their financial status and the impending takeover issue, the Toffees are certainly not wasting time in the transfer season.

Deals have been completed to bring Jack Harrison back on loan from Leeds United [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June], as well as a permanent deal for Aston Villa’s Tim Iroegbunam, while Lewis Dobbin is leaving [Romano, 21 June].

The latter two purchases may have been enough to alleviate possible financial and sustainability difficulties at both clubs, but the seeming rush at Goodison Park to acquire another new striker is almost certainly motivated by the prospect of losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sean Dyche’s number one striker currently has a year left on his contract and is wanted by Newcastle [Telegraph, 23 May], West Ham, and Brentford [Football Transfers, 21 June].

Everton appear to be contemplating approaches for Ndiaye and Chelsea’s Armando Broja, but a big departure is likely required to bankroll either transaction [Sky Sports, 11 June].

That might be midfielder Amadou Onana, however Jarrad Branthwaite is less likely after the team held firm against Manchester United.

However, with Calvert-Lewin, Beto, and a youngster already in the team at striker, it appears that the focus on recruiting another is due to the loss of one of the current players.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin’s takeover confronts a potentially big roadblock as legal difficulties that have not yet been made public surface.
