NEWS NOW: Investigating edge rushers who paid official visits to the Miami football team.

The Miami football team hosted six edge rushers for official visits in June, including three-star prospect Herbert Scroggins, who committed to the program on Friday.

In June, the Miami football program hosted six edge rushers. Herbert Scroggins, a three-star prospect, was the first edge rusher to commit to Miami on Friday. Miami also welcomed five-star edge rusher Iose Epenesa, four-stars Javeon Campbell, Zion Grady, Hayden Lowe, and three-star Tylon Lee on official visits in June.

Scroggins is the 407th recruit, 29th edge rusher, and 46th player in Georgia’s 2025 class. Scroggins’ official visits in June included stops schools Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Miami. Following Scroggins’ pledge, Miami moved up to 15th in the 2025 class rankings.

Epenesa would be one of Miami’s major acquisitions in the 2025 class. Iowa and Missouri are Miami’s main competitors in the recruiting of Epenesa. Iowa is the frontrunner to receive a commitment from the Hawkeyes’ heritage, with a 32.3 percent chance, according to On3.

Miami is the second favorite for Epenesa, at 20.3%, followed by Missouri at 14.3% and Penn State at 8.8%. In June, Epenesa made formal visits to Penn State, Missouri, Iowa, Utah, and Miami in that order. Epenesa is the 46th prospect, sixth edge rusher, and second player from Illinois in the 2025 class.

Campbell, Grady, and Lowe all made formal visits to Miami over the weekend of May 31. Campbell has remained uncommitted since their visits, while Grady has committed to Ohio State and Lowe to USC. Throughout June, all three made several official visits. Miami has previously flipped defensive lineman late in the recruiting cycle.

In the 2024 class, edge rusher Elias Rudolph transferred from Michigan to Miami, as did defensive tackle Justin Scott from Ohio State. With Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a as Miami’s defensive line coaches, the Hurricanes will most likely continue to actively pursue all edge rushers in the 2025 class.

Campbell made formal visits to Miami, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia. Kentucky is the heavy favorite for Campbell’s pledge, with a 64.8 percent chance, according to On3. Alabama ranks second at 29.3 percent. According to On3, every other program has a less than 2.0 percent possibility of Campbell committing.

Grady made formal visits to Miami, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, and Ohio State. Grady committed to the Buckeyes on June 24, following his official visit to Columbus the previous weekend. Grady is the 66th prospect, sixth edge rusher, and sixth player in Alabama’s 2025 class.

Lowe made seven official visits before committing to USC on June 21. Lowe is the 242nd prospect, 19th edge rusher, and 23rd player in California coming out of Westlake Village Oaks Christian. According to Greg Biggins of 247 Sports, Lowe “has a prototype 6-4, 240-pound frame,”
