Pink Floyd musician David Gilmour and wife Polly Samson celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on social media today (July 29).
Gilmour shared a black-and-white photo of himself and Samson from their wedding day, as she appears to be prepared to sign their marriage certificate. In the photograph, Samson is winking at a smiling Gilmour while holding a pen.
The 78-year-old artist accompanied the photo with a letter saying, “She signed! Phew! Today marks the 30th anniversary. “The best xxx.”
Samson, meanwhile, has posted two color photographs from their wedding. The first image depicts the bride and groom prepared to cut into their wedding cake. The second shot shows the couple kissing.
Polly captioned the post: “30 years ago today!” Along with a heart and arrow emoji.
Samson is an author, journalist, and lyricist who has frequently cooperated with her spouse over their long partnership. She wrote lyrics for the majority of the songs on Pink Floyd’s 1994 studio album The Division Bell, as well as Gilmour’s most recent three solo albums, On an Island (2006), Rattle That Lock (2015), and Luck and Strange (2024).
Gilmour and Samson have three children together: sons Joe and Gabriel, and daughter Romany. David also adopted Polly’s son Charlie from her previous marriage to the late novelist Heathcote Williams. Gilmour also has four children from his previous marriage.
Gilmour’s Luck and Strange Preview
Speaking of Luck and Strange, Gilmour’s latest solo album will be released on September 6. In recent weeks, David has posted a series of videos on his social media platforms previewing various components of the album.
In one of the most recent videos, Gilmour explains the album’s lead track.
“The album opens with an instrumental piece called ‘Black Cat,'” raves Gilmour. “[It] shows me playing the piano. It has some strings and a great slide guitar. And the main electric guitar used is my new favorite black Strat, the Black Cat Strat, of course.
I believe I want to get folks in the mood at the start of an album by playing a short piece of peaceful instrumental music that sets the tone for what follows.”
Another recent video shows the recording of orchestral and choral arrangements for the album.
“The orchestrations were done by Will Gardner,” David explains in the video. “His direction of the choir is unusual and avant-garde. Although they are purposefully out of tune, they appear to fit. It’s pretty bizarre. Yeah, I believe he’s a true genius.”
Luck and Strange includes eight new original songs, as well as a rendition of dream-pop band The Montgolfier Brothers’ 1999 song “Between Two Points.” The title tune includes keyboard parts by late Pink Floyd co-founder Richard Wright, which were recorded during a 2007 jam session inside Gilmour’s barn.

Gilmour’s 2024 Tour Plans
Gilmour will kick off his 2024 tour in support of Luck and Strange with a six-concert engagement in Rome from September 27 to October 3. He also has six concerts set at the Royal Albert Hall in London between October 9 and October 15.
Gilmour also has gigs scheduled in Los Angeles and New York City. He’ll perform on October 25 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, followed by three concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29, 30, and 31. Gilmour’s last confirmed 2024 performances are set for November 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
