Myles Turner, a star player for the Indiana Pacers, recently opened up on the Fever’s fan base in an interview.
Since Indiana’s season concluded last week, the fan base of the Indiana Fever has been the subject of a lot of conversation.
Following the Fever’s September 25 87-81 defeat to the Connecticut Sun, head coach Stephanie White and player Alyssa Thomas addressed the team’s experiences with racist and sexist remarks from Fever supporters.
Following that, other WNBA players have spoken out about hearing the same things from Indiana’s supporters. This has led to a declaration from the WNBA stating that it will “not tolerate racist, derogatory, or threatening comments made about players, teams, and anyone affiliated with the league.”
Still, not everyone is quite so disparaging of the Fever and its supporters. During the Indiana Pacers’ recent media day, star Myles Turner gave praise to the crowd and the organization.
Turned reportedly remarked, “What the Fever did this year, that was incredible,” according to the Indiana Pacers’ X account. “As someone who has been going to Fever games for the last, what, 10 years now, just the environment that was in there, the fresh vitality that was in there was phenomenal, and something that’s only going to develop.
“For a team that wasn’t even in contention for the playoffs to come through and actually get to that first round, and had that experience with their younger players, is dope to watch,” turned to say.
There appears to be a great bond between Indiana’s two professional basketball teams, as Pacers star player Tyrese Haliburton discussed during his media day with Fever rookie phenom Caitlin Clark.
Maybe the negative perception that several WNBA players and coaches have given Fever supporters over the past week is undeserved.
