Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell stated Wednesday that the team has suffered two serious injuries as a result of Tuesday’s practice. Defensive end John Cominsky and senior guard Netane Muti will both be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to surgical procedures.
Cominsky and Muti Injuries
“Both of them have injuries that will keep them out for a while, and both will require surgery,” Campbell stated, as reported by Pride of Detroit. “I dislike that for both players. Both of them were having enjoyable camps.
Cominsky tore his MCL during practice, and Muti injured his shoulder shortly afterwards. Campbell was optimistic about Cominsky’s probable return for a deep run later in the season. “That is what we talked about. “Yes, we’re optimistic,” Campbell said. “And look, if anybody can do it, anybody can come back and be ready to go late in the season, we know Cominsky will do everything he can to get back.”
Adjusting the Detroit Lions roster
The strategy for Muti, who was competing for a reserve guard job, is unknown. Muti was recruited in the summer to provide seasoned leadership to the Lions’ youthful offensive line. With Muti’s injury, the Lions have already made steps to fill the void by signing six-year veteran Ike Boettger, who replaced Muti during practice.
Campbell acknowledged the importance of losing Cominsky, but underlined the team’s defensive depth, naming Josh Paschal, Marcus Davenport, and Levi Onwuzurike as players ready to step up. “You never want to lose a player like that, but yeah, I do think we’re in position to certainly handle this,” Campbell told the media. “We feel pretty good about the guys we have.”
