NFL: Fans’ Opinions on the Green Bay Packers’ 4-year, $48 million signing of an injury-prone Is……

News about the Green Bay Packers’ free agency is gradually emerging from a lull. Aaron Banks, a four-year, $77 million offensive lineman for the 49ers, was their first external signing earlier Monday. They did this after re-signing linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and kicker Brandon McManus before the tampering period officially began today.

Certainly they swung and missed on many of the bigger options in the market. Myles Garret, Maxx Crosby, Tee Higgins, DK Metcalf–all those guys are gone.

It wasn’t a blockbuster, but the Packers dipped their toes back into the market with a signing for the secondary late Monday afternoon.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Green Bay has agreed to a 4-year, $48M deal with Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs.

This follows a rash of signings in the secondary that has seen Lion Carlton Davis III head to New England; Jet DJ Reed replace Davis in Detroit; and Vikings safety Cam Bynum sigh with the Colts.

Hobbs joins a defensive backs room in Green Bay that is tense due to Jaire Alexander’s apparent impending departure. The Packers could theoretically cut Alexander without losing depth if Hobbs were added.

Jaire’s incapacity to maintain his health is one of the reasons the team is considering letting him go. Regrettably, Hobbs is also susceptible to injury. He has missed 16 games in the last three years, including six last season, which was his fourth in the NFL. In 2024, he recorded his third interception of the season.

Per PFF, Hobbs ranked 110 out of 223 cornerbacks last season with an overall grade of 61.4. In Green Bay, he will join CB Keisean Nixon as the top two backs on the roster. Packers free agent CBs Eric Stokes and Corey Ballentine remain unsigned.
