Luka Doncic has adapted to life in Los Angeles as a Laker more easily than many anticipated.
With 26-year-old point guard Luka Doncic leading the team, the Los Angeles Lakers are optimistic about the future. The reigning Western Conference Finals MVP was devastated to learn that the team had acquired him in a shocking midseason trade from the Dallas Mavericks.
Doncic told European media during his post-game press conference following the Milwaukee Bucks’ 106-126 loss that he is settling into life in Los Angeles even though he intends to play his entire NBA career in Dallas.
Doncic has been on a rough Eastern Conference road trip with the Lakers right now, but he has previously also mentioned his fondness for the ocean. The warm weather in LA will likely remind Doncic of the time he spent in Madrid, Spain, so the city is definitely a huge plus for him.
He’s looking more comfortable on the court with every passing game. He tried carrying the Lakers to a win against the Bucks, putting up 45 points (14-27 FG) with 11 rebounds in the loss.
Since joining the Lakers, he has averaged 26.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists. He hopes to increase his stats as the season goes on and the Lakers get ready for a run at the playoffs.
After starting the game 12–2 with Doncic on the court, the Lakers lost for the third time in a row tonight. After the game, Luka talked about the same thing, regretting the team’s injuries but emphasizing that the healthy players needed to focus on winning moving forward.
Three key players are out for us. Therefore, having three or four starters out will always be difficult. The winning teams, however, always go through something, as I saw last year. I believe that’s what we’re going through right now. We must take that lesson to heart. We must approach the upcoming match with the belief that we can prevail.
