A number of prospects, including those from within the state, traveled to Gainesville last week to see the Florida Gators’ spring practice.
Last Thursday, receiver Brian Williams (6-4, 185, Lake Mary, FL. High) made his first appearance on campus and had the opportunity to experience everything the Gators had to offer.
Regarding his trip to Florida last week, Williams remarked, “It was a really good visit.” We had a great tour of the campus, and I really enjoy the experience. I attended the practice and had meetings with Coaches Gonzales and Napier as well as the entire staff. It was undoubtedly a fantastic experience.
Williams was impressed by several receivers during practice, and he believes the Gators as a whole are a team that looked sharp.
“It was very competitive,” he said of practice. “The coaches were into it, and the players were definitely getting after it. I liked it a lot and they have some very skilled guys, like you could tell these guys are polished and coached very well. It looks like a good group of guys.”
Receivers coach Billy Gonzales met with Williams after practice and explained to him where he likes the receiver at in college.
“He sees me definitely on the outside,” Williams of his talks with Gonzales. “He thinks I move very well and that I run very good routes. He could definitely see me going on the inside once I get more skilled in the offense.”
Head coach Billy Napier also met with Williams and explained to him why the Gators wanted to offer him a few weeks ago.
Regarding if this visit benefited Florida, Williams stated, “It definitely did.” “After visiting the school, my curiosity is escalating, and I do enjoy it. I already have a scheduled official visit to Florida from May 30 to June 1.
Regarding his conversations with Coach Napier, he stated, “Coach Napier just told me that after he watched my UA camp that he just had to offer me.” He phoned me and made the offer, saying, “You know, he’s seen NFL receivers, and he really believes I could be one.” He would want to teach me since he thinks I play a great game.
Following the visit, Williams claims that the Gators are increasing their recruitment efforts and that he has already scheduled another trip to Gainesville.
Several other schools are also in the mix for Williams, and two other official visits are set at the moment with more to come. “At the moment, I have Vanderbilt and Syracuse set up,” he said on other visits. “Schools like West Virginia, Auburn, Notre Dame, and USF are all schools recruiting me hard.”
