These three Mariners deserve a chance in the Midsummer Classic, even if Cal Raleigh is the clear favorite.
With his league-high 26 home runs, Cal Raleigh is nearly likely to be named an All-Star in 2025, but who else from the Seattle Mariners should be taken into account?
These three less well-known team players are deserving of a spot in the 2025 Midsummer Classic.
Three members of the Seattle Mariners who deserve All-Star consideration
1. Andrés Muñoz, Relief Pitcher
Muñoz holds a 1.30 ERA and 0.831 WHIP, and has converted 18 out of 22 save opportunities. His ERA ranks ninth among relievers who have appeared in at least 20 games, and his 18 saves rank second in the American League.
Muñoz has been one of the most dominant closers in baseball for a while now, and deserves to be rewarded for his efforts. Ultimately, it will likely come down to how many spots are available and how the roster comes together.
Usually, only three or four relievers from each league make the All-Star game. While Muñoz certainly has an argument to be among the AL’s top three, he could be snubbed due to the requirement of having one player from each team. Oftentimes, a bad team, such as the Chicago White Sox, might be represented by their reliever, as each team gets at least one All-Star. Still, Munoz deserves it and should have a decent shot at getting in.
2. Center Fielder Julio Rodríguez
In spite of all the criticism that Rodríguez is overvalued, the 24-year-old is establishing himself as another All-Star. Among all American League outfielders, he has a 2.5 fWAR, which is second only to Aaron Judge. Rodriguez’s outstanding defense has provided the most of that value, but his bat has also been getting hot lately. He now ranks 17th among AL outfielders with an OPS of.749.
For Rodríguez, it will depend on how voters and players choose to value WAR against other, more easily measurable offensive statistics. On offense alone, Rodríguez will not be an All-Star. His numbers are not there, at least not yet. However, considering his fWAR and defensive value, he does deserve to play in the Midsummer Classic.
3. J.P. Crawford, Shortstop
Crawford has been enjoying a bounce-back campaign at shortstop. With a .396 OBP and 135 WRC+, Crawford is putting up legitimate All-Star numbers.
The problem for Crawford’s candidacy is that he is the fourth-best shortstop in the American League behind three legitimate stars. Bobby Witt Jr., Jeremy Peña, and rookie Jacob Wilson all have significantly higher fWAR totals than Crawford, and would likely make the team over J.P. That is a bummer, because Crawford has been awesome in 2025 and deserves the opportunity to be an All-Star.
