A year after winning his first-ever international championship at the same venue, Pietro Sighel made quite an impression by winning all three of the men’s titles at the European Short Track Championships. With three continental titles up for grabs for individual male athletes, the Italian now has them all. In March, Rotterdam will host the World Short Track Championships.

With a resounding victory in the men’s division at the European Short Track Championships, Pietro Sighel of Italy made a big splash and cemented his reputation as one to watch at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
At the same location a year prior, Sighel won the European 500m gold, his first-ever international title.
He now owns the three continental titles that are available to male athletes on their own, capping an incredible week in Poland with a victory in the 1000m.

Sighel emerged victorious over Farrell Treacy of Great Britain, whose silver medal became the country’s first at the Championships since Elise Christie’s double in 2019.
Hanne Desmet of Belgium kept her title in the women’s 1000m, but the Dutch swept the relay races that concluded the program.
Sighel’s efforts helped the Netherlands win sparkling gold in the men’s 5000m, women’s 3000m, and mixed 2000m relays, leading to a successful conclusion. However, Italy remained top of the medal standings.
