Jordan Love, the former third-year quarterback, led the Green Bay Packers to an amazing 2023-24 season. Love helped the Packers reach the second round of the playoffs. However, Green Bay signed a new offensive contributor in free agency, who hopes to help the team continue to progress. Josh Jacobs, a former Las Vegas Raiders running back, was brutally honest about why he chose the Packers over the New York Giants and the Denver Broncos.
“I didn’t want to go to a team where I felt like I was going to be in a rebuilding situation,” Jacobs stated, according to ESPN. “I didn’t want to go to a team where I didn’t feel like I was going to come in and immediately make an impact and be able to be one of the factors to get over the hump.”
The Giants are trying to develop a competitive identity in the NFC East. New York concluded the 2023 season with a 6-11 record and parted ways with standout running back Saquon Barkley. Similarly, the Broncos are shifting their focus to developing young talent after releasing Russell Wilson and drafting Bo Nix. It made more sense for Josh Jacobs to join a team that was rapidly advancing through the league levels, and the Packers were that team.
Jacobs gives insight into Raiders leaving and Packers arrival.
Josh Jacobs began his NFL career with the Raiders, who selected him with the 24th choice in the 2019 draft.
He was with the franchise for five seasons and experienced significant improvement. However, Jacobs believed that his situation was unstable due to the continual changes in leadership.
“I feel like the Raiders are still a cornerstone franchise,” Jacobs told ESPN. “But when you come in and there are different coaches and general managers each with their own vision, you have to adapt to their vision. We didn’t have that culture fixed in stone.”
The 26-year-old believes the Packers have a better established culture and identity.
“That’s what I would say the biggest difference is: You know what being a Packer is,” said the veteran quarterback. “You can feel it throughout the building. “You see it on a daily basis.”
