After firing Erol Bulut last week, the Bluebirds are searching for a new manager.
Plymouth Argyle captain Joe Edwards has urged Cardiff City to consider two of his previous managers for the vacant post in the Welsh capital.
Erol Bulut’s fate was sealed last Sunday after a 2-0 home defeat by Leeds United consigned the Bluebirds to their worst start to a league season in 94 years.

Omer Riza has been named interim manager while Cardiff looks for a new permanent manager. He should at least be able to make an impression in the games against Millwall and Hull City to establish his candidacy.

While the Cardiff administration is already assembling their own list of potential hires, Argyle captain Edwards thinks the Bluebirds could look no further than at two of his former Plymouth managers.
Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher are two managers with championship experience but are now unemployed. Both had success at Home Park; Schumacher eventually joined Stoke City, while Lowe had a respectable stint at Preston North End.
In 2019, Lowe was promoted from League Two with Bury, and the following season, he experienced the same success with Argyle. Midway through the League One season, he was then grabbed by North End.
He was succeed by Schumacher, who was Lowe’s assistant manager at Home Park. The Pilgrims missed out on the play-offs in that 2022 season but in 2023 Schumacher guided them to the League One title with a total of 101 points – and Schumacher was named League One Manager of the Year. He was appointed Stoke City boss back in December last year but the Potters finished 17th. He was sacked earlier this month with Stoke in 13th place in the Championship table.
Both would not require any compensation, know the league and have their admirers within Cardiff’s fan base, while Edwards believes either would be a good fit for City.

In the latest episode of Sportin Wales, Edwards responded to a question regarding the Cardiff job with, “I dunno. I am aware of nothing but the availability of two of my former managers. Two really talented managers—Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher—may or may not be of interest.
“They have several elite players, so it will be intriguing to see who they target after a difficult start to the season. Joe Ralls and I played together at Yeovil, so I know him there.
It will be intriguing to watch who gets in because they have some talented athletes there. However, as I previously stated, there’s always a chance that the two gentlemen I described would work out.”
