Caleb Hughes, a graduate of Cardiff City’s academy, has signed a contract with Yeovil Town through the end of the current campaign.
Since being released from the Welsh team at the end of the previous season, the 21-year-old midfielder has been a free agent.
James McCarthy, the academy’s then-manager, characterized him as “a hard working, energetic center midfielder with a good range of passing and good quality from set pieces” when he signed a professional contract with Cardiff on his seventeenth birthday.
He gives manager Mark Cooper more alternatives in the midfield position as club captain Matt Worthington is anticipated to be sidelined due to an injury sustained during Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw against Tamworth.
In his announcement of the signing on Friday night, Yeovil claimed to have played for Cardiff at the Under-18 and Under-21 levels and to have spent time with Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Welsh League Premier Division. However, a little “desktop research,” or a Google search, indicates that a large portion of this was in their youth setup.
The statement concludes: “Come watch Caleb make his debut at Huish Park tomorrow as the Glovers take on Maidenhead United.” Which suggests he will be involved in National League Premier Division action fairly swiftly.
