Fans of David Gilmour should rejoice because he believes his next album, Luck and Strange, will be his best work since The Dark Side of the Moon. Gilmour is the guitarist for Pink Floyd.
In a recent interview with Prog, Gilmour makes the audacious assertion while talking about the record, which is released by Sony on September 6.
“The Dark Side of the Moon was released more than 50 years ago,” Gilmour claims. “I think this is the best record I’ve made since The Dark Side of the Moon came out in 1973,” the artist said.
Prog rock classics including Money, Time, Breathe (In the Air), and Brain Damage were all inspired by the album Dark Side of the Moon, which is regarded as one of the best of all time.
We currently only have two singles from Luck and Strange—The Piper’s Call and Between Two Points—to compare it against. These tunes are listed below so you may judge Gilmour’s request for yourself.
You’ll be happy to hear that Gilmour already has material for a follow-up in the works if you enjoy what you’ve heard so far.
He states later in the interview, “Our plan is just to get this one out and run it and then do another one straight away.” “I’ll be collaborating with each of these folks once more. In the past, I’ve struggled with wanting to just throw myself into a studio with a few folks and toss things about, but I never knew who those individuals should be.
And now that I have these phone numbers, the strain has completely disappeared. It has the atmosphere of a team, and I enjoy working in teams; I didn’t chose to pursue a single career.
He continues: “Being in a band when you’re young, you’re equal members at the outset: you can shout at each other and criticise and have any tantrum you like, but you still stick together.
“But when you have achieved a higher level of success, most of the people that come into your sphere are going to look to you. They’re not going to be like [Luck and Strange, alt-J producer] Charlie Andrew – Charlie is the kind of refreshing thing that you want to have happen to you.”
