The Carolina Hurricanes are struggling to stay healthy as of late with the most recent addition to the injury report being forward William Carrier.
Carrier, 30, has been ruled out of Sunday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a lower-body injury.
It will be the first game Carrier has missed this season.
The big forward leads the team in hits with 136 and also had four goals and nine assists to go along with that. His line with Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook had been Carolina’s most dominant and so his loss is a big one.
Juha Jaaska will slot in for Carolina in Carrier’s absence in what will be just his second career game.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Tyson Jost will be getting a second opinion on his undisclosed injury in the coming days according to Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour, but regardless of that, it seems he will be out for the foreseeable future.
“It’s definitely more of a week-to-week thing which is unfortunate,” Brind’Amour said.
Jost, 26, was injured in the Hurricanes Dec. 31 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He absorbed a routine hit from Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson in the third period but left the ice in noticeable discomfort.
He would not return to the game following that hit and has been out since, with Finnish forward Juha Jaaska making his NHL debut in place of him.
The Carolina broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network also labeled Jost’s injury as lower body.
Jost appeared in 16 games this season and had two goals playing on the fourth line.
Jack Drury, who Jost was in the lineup for, will return from injury tonight though.
