I will No Longer Play With Michigan Wolverines Again: Alex Orji Leaving Michigan to UNLV

Michigan quarterback Alex Orji transfers to UNLV

Michigan quarterback Alex Orji entered the transfer portal last month, and now he has a new football home.

Orji, 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, appeared in 20 games for Michigan including three starts in 2024. Orji never was able to get it clicking as a passer at Michigan, completing 26-of-48 passes for 155 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The majority of Orji’s success came as a runner, rushing for 392 yards and four touchdowns in his Michigan career.

Orji, despite being in the portal, actually entered the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama on Dec. 31 after starting quarterback Davis Warren tore his ACL. Orji threw for two yards with an interception in Michigan’s win with nine rushing yards.

Orji seems unlikely to start at UNLV as they added Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who has two years of starting experience, via the portal. Expect Orji to be used at UNLV in a similar manner to how he was used at Michigan. UNLV’s new head coach is Dan Mullen, who was previously the head coach of Florida.
