When news broke that Bryan Adams was returning to India, music fans in Kolkata were devastated—but he was not coming to the City of Joy. Anshul Chauhan and Dhruv Todi, the co-founders of RhythmBox, are making history instead of allowing it to repeat itself in collaboration with Whats In D Name Live and Zomato.
The event management organization revealed on August 6 that Bryan Adams will be visiting the city on December 8 as part of his inaugural “So Happy It Hurts” tour (HSBC tour), bringing his six strings to Aquatica. The tour was originally scheduled to begin on December 10 in Shillong.
What the strategy is
At a location such as Aquatica, RhythmBox anticipates drawing a crowd of more than 20,000 people of all ages. There will be real musicians from the city performing both before and after the leading man’s performance. Anshul Chauhan, co-founder of RhythmBox, adds, “We are going to try and integrate them. Kolkata is known for its rock bands.”
The change from live to electronic
It only seemed logical to question Anshul Chauhan, co-founder of RhythmBox, about their transition from electronic music to live music after learning such incredible news. Anshul and his colleague Dhruv have been producing electronic dance music events for the past nine years, but they were constantly searching for a booking that would elevate the experience. Anshul says, “You have to involve the entire city because it is difficult for such artistes to come to Kolkata or for such things to align.”
Getting ready for the performance
Anshul also promises that they will make an effort to incorporate a lot of rock and live music activities at various venues throughout the city as the performance draws near. Because rock is so popular in Kolkata, we’ll be looking at Bryan Adams tribute evenings, rock nights, and more. He continues, “It gives us opportunity to hire more such artistes after we accomplish something like this, but we won’t reveal their names.
