The 2025 NFL Draft, in which the New York Giants ultimately selected seven players, was the source of some of their major additions during their incredibly active summer.
EDGE Abdul Carter, who they picked with the third overall choice out of Penn State, is the first player they removed from the board and the one who will be under a lot of pressure in 2025.
The club had its rookie mini camp from May 9–10, giving them their first opportunity to see Carter in person. On Thursday, they revealed that they had formally signed Carter to their rookie contract.
Quickly after inking the deal, the newest member of the Giants went to social media to say, “Alhumdullilah Beyond Blessed.”
He played in 16 games, had 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss (leading FBS), four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles during his incredible 2024 season with the Nittany Lions.
The Giants’ pass rush, which finished 25th in pressures (126), tied for ninth in sacks (45), 26th in hurries (39) and tied for 21st in quarterback knockdowns (42) last season, has a chance to improve right away with his arrival.
If he can’t, though, it would be a bit of a disappointment, as ESPN BET already gives Carter the best odds (+250) to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, which is well ahead of Atlanta Falcons EDGE Jalon Walker with the second-best odds (+650).
