Mason Greenwood, a former Manchester United winger, sent out a strong encouraging message following his first goal for Marseille.
What happened?
The 22-year-old attacker has joined the giants of Ligue 1 for €30 million (£25 million/$33 million). He spent last season on loan at La Liga club Getafe, winning Player of the Year and generating interest from all across Europe.
He has a bigger picture.
United were anticipated to approve a permanent sale this summer, with Marseille winning the recruitment sweepstakes. Certain portions of Stade Velodrome’s dedicated fan base were opposed to the deal, but a large-scale move was completed.
What Greenwood said:
Greenwood has been in friendly action for his new club, with the goal coming in a pre-season game against Pau FC. The one-cap England international hopes to establish a bright future in Marseille and has shared a “brick by brick” statement on social media.
WHAT IS NEXT?
United has a buy-back option on Greenwood, which is unlikely to be used, as well as a sell-on provision in the conditions that saw a product of their academy system leave Old Trafford. Greenwood has signed a five-year contract with Marseille till 2029.
