Jadon Sancho and Chelsea are negotiating the conditions of his contract, according to reports.

After scoring a spectacular goal into the side netting to make it 3-1 in Sunday night’s UEFA Conference League final, Jadon Sancho pulled off his jersey and ran off to celebrate. It’s definitely not a bad one if that’s going to be his last appearance in a Chelsea shirt, especially for a guy whose hesitation to take shots had been one of the more frequent criticisms.

Even though Sancho only has one year left on his contract, Chelsea does have the option to make his stay permanent, and considering the current state of the market, that £25 million is not exactly an exorbitant fee. However, if we decide against it and just send Sancho back to Manchester United, it wouldn’t be a major punishment either to pay just £5 million (sorry, Jadon, it wouldn’t be personal I’m sure).

Last night, Enzo Maresca gave the impression that he would like the 25-year-old winger stay.

Sportpop explained today that salary may be the deciding factor in the end. Sancho is now being paid in accordance with the conditions of his four-year, €85 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund to United. Although those terms are unknown to us, they might be as much as £300k a week, of which United would pay 50% while he was on loan. It’s probably safe to argue that it doesn’t fit within our current salary structure, regardless of the precise amount.

  1. Would Sancho accept a pay cut to remain at Chelsea and forego that last successful season? If so, he might actually do so, and it seems like negotiations are still going on. (And the market conditions for him in the future might likewise be improved by more fair pay.)
