Certain weddings have rigorous formal clothing codes. Other weddings involve private concerts by the always-casual Justin Bieber.
Bieber flew to Mumbai over the weekend to perform a medley of his biggest hits, from “Baby” to “Love Yourself,” at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s lavish sangeet ceremony—the latest event in the billionaire couple’s months-long pre-wedding festivities, which have already included concerts by Rihanna, Katy Perry, the Backstreet Boys, Pitbull, David Guetta, and Andrea Bocelli. (Anant is the youngest son of Indian energy scion Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man.)
The pop star arrived at the airport wearing a fuzzy red Kangol bucket hat, hotel slippers from his own Drew House brand, and loungewear from two small Los Angeles athleisure labels: an oversized snow-cone-pink crewneck sweatshirt from Elwood and flared cornflower blue sweatpants from Cherry.
At the event venue, where the majority of the attendees were dressed up in fine suits and glittering lehengas, Biebs dressed down—as he always does—for his set in a cropped peach Marni jacket layered over a white ribbed tank, Willy Chavarria track pants worn low over plaid Ralph Lauren boxers, and platform-soled Acne motorcycle boots. He wore black moto gloves, Komono’s futuristic red wraparound “Alien” sunglasses (his favorite style), and a Los Angeles Angels fitting cap. JB’s clothing, as usual, was sloppy, but far from cheap.
Shortly after performing at the Ambanis’ pre-nuptial event (the official ceremony is scheduled for later this month), Bieber boarded a private plane back to the United States, where his wife, Hailey, is presently expecting their first child.
