According to Bruce Springsteen’s E Street bandmate Steven Van Zandt, his new billionaire status has not “affected” the singer.
Forbes magazine has stated that The Boss has an estimated net worth of $US1.1 billion ($A1.7 billion) as a result of the sale of his music back library in 2021 and extensive touring.
But his longtime friend Van Zandt insists the artist would continue to work because he enjoys playing and “the money has absolutely no factor” in his career decisions.
“First and foremost, I’m not sure how true the Forbes report is. But I don’t think it matters, honestly. Van Zandt informed The Independent newspaper.
“When you have enough money to survive on, it matters. Do you continue working? Or do you retire on a yacht and sip mojitos off the coast of Portugal?
“The truth is, this is what we do. As a result, money is entirely irrelevant. It hasn’t harmed him in many years. Since, really, (1984 album) Born in the United States. What is it, forty years?
“So no matter how many zeros is on the bank account, it doesn’t make any difference.”
Van Zandt remarked, “It’s excellent for me because I’ll definitely borrow some money. I am joking, of course. My bookie is going to love him. I am joking again!”
Springsteen previously stated that he was uncomfortable when he first started making significant money from his music since it distinguished him from everyone he grew up with in New Jersey.
In Warren Zanes’ 2023 book Deliver Me From Nowhere, the singer stated: “I was solvent, which would set me apart in my small neighborhood. So I was dealing with all of my conflicted thoughts of being so different from the people I grew up with and wrote about.”
