SO SAD: Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will miss the rest of the season due to his horrible injury

Celtic face a potential setback with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel possibly sidelined for months.

The Denmark international sustained a shoulder injury during a clash with Diogo Jota at the Denmark versus Portugal Nations League match on Sunday.

Despite being in apparent discomfort, the 38-year-old managed to finish the match, having already saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Danish media outlet Nyheder 24 reported that Schmeichel’s injury “is not a minor injury.”

This puts his fitness for the next international break in September, where Denmark will face Scotland, in doubt.

If the injury is as serious as feared, this could be a significant blow for Brendan Rodgers and the Scottish Premiership champions.

Schmeichel would miss the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone, the potential final, and even next season’s Champions League qualifiers.

However, Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, attempted to allay fears over Schmeichel’s condition.

However, Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, attempted to allay fears over Schmeichel’s condition.

He said: “Kasper Schmeichel’s left shoulder was X-rayed last night and fortunately the images do not show anything abnormal.

“He is clearly in pain after a fall on his shoulder, so we are examining him further with an MRI scan.”
