The No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns are in the middle of making a run for a title in the College Football Playoff, but they, like the rest of college football programs, are also attempting to bolster their 2025 roster via the transfer portal. Since the portal has opened, the Longhorns have brought in just three transfers. Whether or not that is by design is unclear, but they are making a push for some of the portal’s top players. As revealed in a report by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Longhorns are hosting former Georgia and Florida State EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. Zenitz revealed that Jones took a trip to Norman to see Oklahoma before heading to Austin to visit with the Longhorns. The former five-star recruit from the 2022 class spent the first two seasons of his career in Athens before transferring to Florida State. Across his three years, Jones has racked up 41 total tackles, two forced fumbles and six sacks, four of which came this season. According to On3, his NIL Valuation comes in at $449,000.
While the Longhorns have a star pass rusher in freshman Colin Simmons, they are expected to see some NFL attrition after the season, as they did last year. Adding an experienced talent like Jones to pair with Simmons could give Texas yet another talented defensive front.
