According to a police department representative, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was taken into custody by Frisco police on Sunday night on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and carrying a handgun without authorization.
The unauthorized carrying of a weapon is a misdemeanor, and the controlled substance allegation for alleged possession of THC is a low-level state felony, according to Frisco police. Prior to this, a Star-Telegram source claimed the substance was marijuana.

Products containing more than 0.3% THC for recreational purposes are prohibited, even if they are imported into Texas from states where marijuana use is permitted. Williams has had two run-ins with the law since his selection in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
His promising rookie season was marred in December by a two-car collision that led to an arrest warrant. The collision totaled Williams’ vehicle.

Owner Jerry Jones stated that the Cowboys looked at Williams’ background in great detail before selecting him. On draft night, Jones declared, “I’m confident that we know about the young man coming in here, that we’ve covered the ground and we’ve got it all out there.
“We drafted Sam after seeing everything available, and I’m sure we got everything.” Williams may have violated the NFL’s personal conduct rules as a result of the arrest, which could lead to a fine or suspension.
