In a significant boost to their women’s basketball program, the Michigan Wolverines have secured a commitment from Syla Swords, the nation’s top high school player, who chose Michigan over offers from Alabama and Tennessee. This decision marks a historic moment for the Wolverines, as Swords becomes the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history.

Syla Swords, a standout at Long Island Lutheran High School, has had an illustrious high school career. She averaged 17.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 3.0 steals per game in her senior year, leading her team to the 2023 Class AA New York State Federation Tournament of Champions championship. Her exceptional performance earned her the titles of New York Gatorade Player of the Year and New York MaxPreps Player of the Year. Additionally, Swords was honored as a McDonald’s All-American, further solidifying her status among the nation’s elite players

Beyond her high school achievements, Swords has significant international experience. She made history as the youngest woman to play for Team Canada during the 2024 Paris Olympics, showcasing her talent on a global stage.
