The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Miami Heat 125-91 at the FedExForum on Saturday, ending a losing streak. Jaren Jackson Jr., a former No. 4 pick out of Michigan State, was in charge of Memphis’ scoring load because two-time All-Star Ja Morant was sidelined due to right shoulder soreness.
Jackson played just his second game back after spraining his left ankle against the Atlanta Hawks on March 3rd, leading the Grizzlies with 31 points on 13-for-18 shooting.
For months, Morant has been battling a persistent shoulder injury. Due to the persistent pain, the former Rookie of the Year has missed games since spraining his right AC joint against the New Orleans Pelicans on December 27.
While fans are used to seeing Morant appear on the injury report with a shoulder issue, there is now a new injury designation for the star guard. On their official injury report for Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, the Grizzlies announced Morant is out due to left hamstring soreness. This is certainly unfortunate news for a Grizzlies team battling for positioning in the competitive Western Conference.
Morant missed his last game, a 133-124 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, so this will be his second consecutive missed game. With a season-high 44 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists on 17-for-22 shooting, Morant gave it his all.
