This off-season, the Florida Gators have been quite active in their recruitment efforts. They now search for future prospects in the offensive line. Johnnie Jones, a four-star offensive tackle, has a full spring and summer schedule, including trips to the Gators and other elite programmes. As he makes his way through the recruiting process, the highly anticipated recruit—who is ranked as the No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 84 overall prospect in the 2026 On300—is carefully considering his options.
Jones, who has already taken multiple visits to Florida, highlighted the Gators’ culture and playing style as key factors in his interest. Along with the returning sophomore star quarterback DJ Lagway. “I like the way they play football,” Jones told On3. “With DJ Lagway being the quarterback, it allows them to play a more aggressive style, whether that’s calling run-pass options or the quarterback making a deep pass because he’s able to throw it downfield. Their culture is good. When I’ve been there, it’s never been bad or down. Whether they win or lose, they’re always upbeat, and there are good vibes whenever I go there.” The No. 11 player in Florida is also considering in-state programs like Florida State, Miami, and UCF, as well as out-of-state schools such as Colorado, Ole Miss, Penn State, and UCLA. However, the Gators remain a strong contender due to their SEC pedigree and the opportunity to play close to home.
Florida is in the SEC. Miami and Florida State are in the ACC. What keeps them all at the same level is being able to play for different brands of football,” Jones said. “If I end up playing in Florida, it will be a plus because I’ll be close to my family. But I’m open to leaving the state if another program provides the best fit for me.” Jones emphasized that relationships, academic opportunities, and personal growth will play a significant role in his decision. “I’m really focused on finding a place that can help me grow academically and help me develop as a man,” he said.
