Hawthorn secured premiership player Najwa Allen via the 2024 AFLW Trade Period.

Allen spent her first day at the club back in December, alongside the club’s five new draftees.

Despite feeling more seasoned among her fellow new recruits, she said she was looking forward to the new adventure.

“Very very exciting and I’m feeling a little bit old today hanging out with all these 18-year-olds,” Allen said.

Allen spoke to what enticed her to be part of the brown and gold family.

“I think just looking from afar how far the Hawks have come from their first season to where they are now. And then just the competitiveness of the club,” she said.

“I was saying I’m pretty competitive, so don’t really go for any other clubs, but last year I was probably backing in the Hawks a little bit to get it done.

“So very excited to be on board with a competitive club that’s making some big steps forward in the competition.”

Allen spent five seasons with the Adelaide Crows, playing in the 2022 (Season 6) premiership side, and hopes her experience can benefit the crop of young Hawks.

“I think just having the experience and being able to pass that onto the next generation and having been in those situations really helps you, so whatever I can do to pass on those experiences and draw from that knowledge that I’ve had and help the younger girls come through I think that’s where it’ll work out,” she said.

Allen spoke about what Hawks fans can expect from her on the field.

“Good runner, and I’d like to say I go hard at it so hopefully people would agree and just try to be competitive wherever I can.”
