Over the last six months, Florida Gators senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. has put together one of the greatest single-season campaigns in UF history. From reeling in consensus first-team All-American honors to being crowned SEC Tournament MVP, the veteran floor general has proven himself time and time again as one of the best players in the country.
Now, his performance in this year’s NCAA Tournament has already started to turn some heads — including that of another former Gator Great. After Florida’s round of 32 win against UConn on Sunday, former UF quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) expressing his support for Clayton Jr. and the Gators.
Tebow’s post read, “Walter Clayton for Heisman!! Oh wait… wrong sport … Go Gators!!!” While Clayton Jr. has already worked his way up the ladder of Gator greatness, Tebow is still widely considered one of the greatest athletes to ever don the orange and blue.
The former UF signal caller helped to lead Florida to a pair of national championships in 2006 and 2008. He was eventually inducted into the Florida Football Ring of Honor in 2018, just less than a decade after departing for the NFL. Clayton Jr. has already built upon an impressive legacy for himself as well. The senior guard is the only Gator in program history to earn first-team All-American honors.
After transferring in from Iona in 2023, Clayton Jr. has made an instant impact to help put Florida basketball back on the map. He will now have a chance to potentially lead Florida back to the Final Four, somewhere it hasn’t been since 2014.
