Tyson Brummett, 35, a former pitcher for the Phillies, died in a plane crash in Utah.
Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Tyson Brummett passed away in an aircraft accident on Friday morning.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Friday, deputies with the Utah Sheriff’s Office received information about a “small plane crash” in American Fork Canyon, which is situated south of Salt Lake City, according to a news release from the authorities.

While hiking, a guy and his two boys witnessed the jet start to turn and then spiral downward. Authorities stated that after reporting to 911, “the witness then climbed down to the plane and verified that the occupants died on impact.” The witness stated that the plane spiraled out of his view and that he heard the hit moments later.

USCO Search & Rescue, Lone Peak Fire and Ambulance, the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, and the Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call.

According to the news release from the police, “they verified that there were four occupants on board the plane and all four appeared to have died on impact.” The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation to ascertain the crash’s cause, which is still unknown.

Brummett, the 35-year-old pilot, Alex Blackhurst Ruegner, the 35-year-old, and his 60- and 62-year-old aunt and uncle were all inside the aircraft.

Friends and baseball family members have lamented Brummett’s passing.

In a statement released on Twitter on Saturday, the team said, “The Phillies organization sends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former pitcher Tyson Brummett, along with three members of the Ruegner and Blackhurst families, who tragically passed away in a plane crash yesterday morning.”

“I just wanted to let you all know.” Tyson was a fantastic player of baseball. An amazing colleague. and a person who is much better. I’m honored to have known him at all, much less be able to call him a friend. Former MLB player Cody Decker, who played with Brummett in college, said, “He was special.”
Michelle Money, a friend of the late athlete’s wife and alum of Bachelor in Paradise, also sent her condolences. “So deeply saddened by my friends husband Tyson’s passing,” she posted on Instagram with a picture of the two of them. “Please offer the affected families all of your prayers.”

In the seventh round of the 2007 MLB Draft, the Philadelphia Phillies selected Brummett, a baseball player for UCLA.

Brummett pitched 110 innings with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the team’s Triple-A club, during his tenure with the organization, which ended in 2012. This information is sourced from NBC Sports.

The athlete struck out two batters in his one and only appearance on the mound for the Phillies in 2012, according to USA Today. The Los Angeles Dodgers dismissed him in 2014 after he had spent the previous season in the minor league system.

Brummett is the third former pitcher for the Phillies to pass away following an aircraft accident.
In 2017, Roy Halladay, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, tragically crashed a two-seater plane into the Gulf of Mexico. After his tiny plane crashed into a high-rise building on Manhattan’s east side in 2006, Cory Lidle, whose career ended while he was a player for the New York Yankees, passed away.
