Cardiff City is in desperate need of more attacking additions even after having an encouraging summer transfer window. They could benefit from a replay of the highly publicized Alex Robertson saga in order to acquire Brighton & Hove Albion’s highly-rated prospect Amario Cozier-Duberry at Portsmouth’s expense.
This summer in the Welsh capital, there are a lot more expectations, and after a string of high-profile captures across the window, there is even more pressure on Erol Bulut to lead the Bluebirds city to victory.
Anwar El Ghazi and Calum Chambers, two former Aston Villa players, both have a prestigious top-flight background. Chris Willock brings precisely that to the Championship; Will Fish and Robertson seem like wise additions for the near and long term; and Jesper Daland and Wilfried Kanga have each established a strong portfolio in the Belgian First Division before moving to South Wales.
It is only reasonable that expectations stay reasonably high given the high-profile additions they have made to the core of a strong second-tier club, and the bar shouldn’t drop in the wake of their erratic season opener.
Sunday afternoon’s action-packed 1-1 draw in the South Wales Derby away at fierce rivals Swansea City has somewhat softened the blow from consecutive heavy defeats against both Sunderland and Burnley, but question marks remain over Cardiff’s attacking impetus and consistent shortcomings from the previous campaign have been carried over to the current.
