According to reports, Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo have started talking about a new contract at the team.
The 39-year-old, who famously left Manchester United after his relationship failed, signed a free transfer to Al-Nassr in January 2023, and he has since enjoyed success with the Saudi team.
For the Saudi Pro League team, Ronaldo has scored 64 goals and provided 17 assists in 71 games. He has also been in excellent form thus far this season.
With six goals and two assists in seven games—four of which came in the Saudi Pro League—the Portugal international has proven that he is still a vital member of the team.
Nicolo Schira, a writer, reports that talks have begun over Ronaldo’s current contract extension with Al-Nassr, which is scheduled to end in June 2025.
“Open talks with Ronaldo over a new deal,” according to Al-Nassr
According to Schira, Ronaldo is committed to playing for Portugal in the 2026 World Cup and is still an important member of the team even though he turns 40 early in 2019.
With 903 goals in a remarkable career—including 132 in 212 appearances for his nation—Ronaldo holds the record for most men’s goalscorers ever. His international career began in 2003.
The forward’s choice to relocate to Saudi Arabia after leaving Manchester United raised some eyebrows, but he has kept up his incredibly outstanding goal scoring pace.
Ronaldo previously acknowledged that it was doubtful that he would play for another club side before his career ended. After leaving Al-Nassr, the Portuguese player plans to retire.
Ronaldo anticipates concluding his career with Al-Nassr.
“I don’t know if I will retire soon, in two or three years… but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr,” Ronaldo stated to NOW. “I feel good about this country and I’m delighted here at the club. Playing in Saudi Arabia makes me happy, and I want to keep doing it.
“I will not notify anyone beforehand about my decision to leave the national team; it will be a spontaneous yet well-considered one on my part.
“At the moment, I want to be able to support the national team in their next games. I would really like to play in the Nations League, which is what we have coming up. I’m not considering coaching the first team or any other squad right now.
“I’ve never given it any thought; it doesn’t even occur to me. I don’t think I’ll experience that in the future. I envision myself pursuing interests beyond football, but who knows what the future may bring.”
Ronaldo scored in both of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland last month, but he was unable to reach the back of the goal during Euro 2024.
