In February 2017, heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath officially closed the book following a protracted farewell tour and a final studio album.
With a sound influence that has permeated every kind of metal music and a legacy spanning more than 50 years, it seemed only natural that the band was calling it quits and ending on what many saw as their own terms. However, founding drummer Bill Ward was absent during the band’s final stretch of performances.

It’s important to mention all of this because it appears that Black Sabbath is preparing to play a formal farewell reunion gig with drummer Bill Ward. All of this began in May when Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy Osbourne declared their willingness to have one more one-off reunion gig with Ward. In particular, Osbourne expressed the opinion that Ward’s absence made the band’s 2017 farewell performance feel lacking.
When asked if he was happy with Sabbath’s career during an interview, Osbourne said, “No.” For it was not Black Sabbath who brought it to a close. It’s not done. I would gladly accept the opportunity to work with Bill again if they so desired. What would be awesome, do you know? If we simply got up and headed to a club or somewhere else without warning. We met in a club at first. The absence of Bill made me unhappy. My drummer, Tommy Clufetos, did an amazing job. He’s not Bill Ward, though.”
