In Memphis, Tennessee, for some reason, it was headband night. All of the Utah Jazz players, with the exception of Collin Sexton, wore headgear on the same night that the team was fined $100,000 for repeatedly resting Lauri Markkanen in recent games. There was some headband magic in the air for this one because the Utah Jazz reverted to their previous two games’ patterns during the game.

With 22 points apiece, Sexton, who was without a headband, and John Collins, who was with the band, led all Jazz scorers in this one. Walker Kessler’s impressive statline of nine points, 14 rebounds, six blocks (there are kids in the room, man!), and five assists put him on the radar for Player of the Game even though he had fewer points. For a player who specializes in rim protection, triple-double watch, regardless of how serious, is a rarified air. Kessler has the potential to be a diamond.

On the way to Memphis’ 42nd victory of the season, the three-headed dragon of Morant, Bane, and Kennard proved too formidable for Utah to contain. Utah suffered yet another defeat, falling to 15-51 and finishing last in the Western Conference. They will play again against the Toronto Raptors on Friday in Salt Lake City.
