Mason Graham, a first-round pick, signed a rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns, the organization announced Tuesday.
Graham, a defensive lineman from Michigan, was taken by the Browns with the fifth overall pick in order to strengthen their middle line. After holding the No. 2 overall pick at first, the Browns made a historic deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In exchange for a first-round choice in the next year’s draft, Cleveland only lost three positions.
Most people thought Graham was the best defensive lineman available in the selection. He finished his last season at Michigan with 3.5 sacks and 45 tackles, including seven for a loss.
He was named a finalist for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the best interior lineman, and the Bednarik Award, which is given to the country’s finest defensive player, for his outstanding play. Graham had 108 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and nine sacks during his time in college.
According to Cleveland.com, his four-year contract is for a fully guaranteed $40.874 million, which includes a $26.366 million signing bonus. The Browns wrote on social media, “Mason is locked in,” and included a picture of Graham signing his contract.
Five of the Browns’ seven draft selections have already been signed. Running back Quinshon Judkins and quarterback Dillon Gabriel were still unsigned.
During Rookie Camp, Mason Graham became viral for the wrong reasons. It wasn’t the first time he made headlines while wearing a Browns uniform. Head coach Kevin Stefanski blamed his on-field vomiting at rookie minicamp on consuming too many wings before to practice.

Myles Garrett, an All-Pro pass rusher, will be Graham’s perfect mentor, and the youngster is ready to pick up tips. He’s excited to work with one of the best defenders in the NFL and learn as much as he can.
“He’s crazy,” Graham remarked. “I wish to be surrounded by him.” He is the greatest at what he does and has done it at the highest level for a long time. It is great to see someone like that.
Garrett finished third last season and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. Over the past four seasons, he has accumulated at least 14 sacks and is a formidable opponent.
Working with seasoned defensive tackles Shelby Harris and Maliek Collins, who contribute invaluable expertise to the interior line, will also help Graham. The rotation will also include Mike Hall Jr., a 2024 second-round selection and second-year lineman.
